Commemorating the birth anniversary week of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, the NSS Cell of International School of Management Patna, under the distinguished leadership of Director, Dr. Vijay Bahadur Singh, Administrator, Ms Neeru Kumari Jha, and NSS Cell Chairperson Ms. Shilpi Kavita, successfully concluded a seven-day ‘Cleanliness is Service’ Campaign, Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) on Saturday, 30 September. The campaign aimed to promote the importance of cleanliness and environmental responsibility within the campus and the surrounding community.
The week-long initiative featured various engaging events and activities designed to spread awareness about cleanliness and waste management. The highlights of the campaign included a thought-provoking Nukkad Natak on Waste Management, a spirited ‘Run for Unity’ event, and an insightful Expert Talk on Plastic Management by esteemed keynote speaker Ms. Monalisha, the Managing Director of Mithinga Waste Management. Mithinga Waste Management is a recognized startup supported by AIC Vidyapeeth and the Department of Industries, Government of Bihar.
The Nukkad Natak on Waste Management held near Danapur Railway Station and Sagunamod brought to light the significance of responsible waste disposal and its impact on the environment. The NSS volunteers as Safai Mitras made the local people aware towards waste management by showcasing thematic posters, slogans, plastic-made hanging pots with saplings and a street show (Nukkad Natak).
The NSS volunteers along with their expert faculty members also held door to door campaign on the devastating environmental effect of plastic use in the nearby villages of the institute. They also convinced the villagers regarding innovative waste management techniques suggested by the technical experts. It was a creative and interactive performance that encouraged audience participation and understanding of effective waste management practices.
A four-kilometre ‘Run for Unity’ event saw NSS volunteers and participants coming together to run for a cleaner and healthier environment, symbolizing the unity needed to address environmental issues collectively. More than 800 First Semester students and NSS volunteers accompanied by Teaching and Non-teaching members of the institute participated in this marathon. This event aligned with the Jan Andolan movement and Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) campaign, aiming to foster a 'Garbage Free India.'
The Expert Talk on Plastic Management by Ms Monalisha, the Managing Director of Mithinga Waste Management, provided valuable insights into sustainable plastic usage, recycling, and waste reduction. Monalisha's expertise shed light on effective strategies and innovative approaches to tackle the plastic crisis.
