The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of the Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides opportunities to the student youth of 11th & 12th Class of schools at +2 Board level and student youth of Technical Institutions, Graduate & Post Graduate at colleges and University level of India to take part in various government-led community service activities & programs. The sole aim of the NSS is to provide hands-on experience to young students in delivering community service. Since the inception of the NSS in the year 1969, the number of students strength increased from 40,000 to over 3.8 million up to the end of March 2018 students in various universities, colleges, and Institutions of higher learning have volunteered to take part in various community service programmes.

ISM Patna (29 October 2024): In a heartwarming initiative on the eve of Diwali, the NSS volunteers of the International School of Management (ISM), Patna, carried out a community outreach activity by distributing clothes to slum dwellers across Patna on Tuesday. The clothes were generously donated by students of the Institute, embodying the spirit of giving and bringing festive cheer to underprivileged communities.
The activity was conducted under the guidance of ISM’s Director, Dr. Vijay Bahadur Singh, and was led by Ms. Neeru Kumari, the Institute’s Admin. Assistant Professors Mr. Jay Kishore and Mr. Basuki Nath Upadhyay, along with Mr. Awadesh Kumar, played an instrumental role in coordinating the team of enthusiastic NSS volunteers, ensuring a smooth and organized distribution process.
This Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative reflects ISM Patna’s commitment to social welfare and community development. By empowering students to take an active role in giving back to society, the Institute continues to foster a culture of empathy, responsibility, and social impact among its young leaders.

ISM Patna (29 May 2024): The Eco-club of NSS at International School of Management, Patna (ISM Patna), organised a guest lecture titled "Embracing Nature," featuring Ms. Devopriya Dutta, the esteemed Youth Coordinator of Tarumitra, Patna. The event coordinated by Dr. Shilpi Kavita, Coordinator of NSS, took place on Wednesday, 29 May 2024 and saw enthusiastic participation from students across various disciplines, including BBA, BCA, BCP, and BAJMC.
Ms. Devopriya Dutta, a passionate environmentalist and youth leader, delivered a compelling talk on the significance of ecological conservation and sustainable living. Drawing from her extensive experience with Tarumitra, a youth-led organization committed to environmental awareness, Ms. Dutta shared valuable insights on how individuals can contribute to preserving the natural world.
Her talk covered various topics, including climate change, biodiversity loss, single-use plastics and innovative solutions to combat these issues. Ms Dutta also shared success stories from Tarumitra’s initiatives, inspiring students to take proactive steps towards environmental stewardship believing in “ONE PLANET ONE FAMILY ONE MOTHER”.
The students participated actively in the interactive session that followed the lecture. The discussion provided a platform for students to ask questions, share their views, and explore ways to integrate sustainable practices into their daily lives.

ISM Patna, August 3, 2024 –The NSS Club and Cultural Committee of the International School of Management Patna (ISMP) celebrated Friendship Day with an inspiring theme, “Save Mother Earth and Go Green.” The event aimed to promote environmental awareness and sustainability among students.
The coordinator of this program, Ms. Neeru Kumari encouraged all students to wear green formal outfits and to join in making friendship bands from biodegradable materials. Around 35 students from the first-semester BBA, BCA, BCP, and BAJMC programs of the 2024-27 Session participated, demonstrating their creativity and dedication to environmental sustainability.
Participants crafted beautiful friendship bands on the ISM campus using eco-friendly materials. Following this, they embarked on a meaningful visit to Tarumitra, a renowned ecological sanctuary dedicated to nurturing a sustainable environment. At Tarumitra, students tied friendship bands to trees, including the revered Kadam and Rudraksha, as well as to Environmentalist, Devopriya Dutta and the caretakers who nurture these vital natural resources. This gesture symbolized a bond of friendship and commitment to protecting the planet.
During their visit to Tarumitra, students explored various eco-friendly initiatives, including the Ashram, Jal Mahal, Organic Farming, and the unique Oxygen Bar and feed catfish. They also had the privilege of meeting Father, Tony, a guiding force at Tarumitra, who shared his insights on environmental conservation and sustainable living. The ISM team honoured him with a bouquet.
The Friendship Day programme and the educational trip to Tarumitra were coordinated by a dedicated team, including Admin Neeru Kumari, Head of the Management Department, Ms. Pooja Dubey, Ms. Isha Birlay, and Ms. Rina Kumari. Their efforts ensured a successful and enriching experience for all participants.

The event was a testament to the Institute’s commitment to community engagement and cultural celebration.

ISM Patna (21 June 2024): The NSS Cell of the International School of Management, Patna, celebrated International Yoga Day with great enthusiasm and participation on Friday, June 21. The event saw a robust turnout of students, faculty members, and non-teaching staff, all coming together to embrace the ancient practice of Yoga and meditation. Under the expert guidance of eminent Raj Yoga teachers from Brahma Kumari University, Ms. B. K. Vandana and Ms. B. K. Shilpi, participants engaged in various Yoga postures and meditation techniques. The session aimed to highlight the holistic benefits of Yoga, which encompass physical fitness, mental peace, and spiritual bliss.

All the youth volunteers who opt to serve the nation through the NSS led community service wear the NSS badge with pride and a sense of responsibility towards helping needy. The Konark wheel in the NSS badge having 8 bars signifies the 24 hours of a the day, reminding the wearer to be ready for the service of the nation round the clock i.e. for 24 hours. Red colour in the badge signifies energy and spirit displayed by the NSS volunteers. The Blue colour signifies the cosmos of which the NSS is a tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind.
