Nari-Uthan Session by E-Cell

Observing Women Entrepreneurship Week the E-Cell of ISM Patna organised a panel discussion on “Nari Uthaan” on Saturday. The main objective of the discussion was to make students aware of starting; strengthening and optimal conditions for women’s entrepreneurship thrive worldwide. Two keynote speakers of this panel Priya Nath, Co-founder, PS Lifestyle & Director, Community Operations, Open Growth Academy and Janak Kishori, Director, Manachi Food Product discussed various significant financial and non-financial issues related to women’s entrepreneurship. It was asserted that women entrepreneurs account for up to a third of all businesses operating in the formal economy worldwide. However, the majority of those in developing and transitioning economies are very small and micro enterprises, with little potential for growth. Highlighting the inhibiting factors it was accepted that due to societal attitudes and norms many women entrepreneurs stay confined to very small businesses often operating in the informal economy. This trailing conventional trend not only limits women’s ability to earn income for themselves and their families but also impedes them from realising their full potential to contribute to socio-economic development, job creation and environmental stewardship. They emphasised on removing such discriminatory customary barriers and investing in women as one of the most effective means of increasing equality and promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth. The participants of this event got enlightened and motivated with insightful discussion and they also raised their queries about certain women’s entrepreneurship development schemes run by central and state governments. The talk was convened by the coordinator of the E-cell, Ms Shilpi Kavita, Assistant Professor ISM Patna
