PGDM Students Showcase Analytical Thinking, Innovative Problem-Solving and Decision-Making Skills
ISM Patna, October 14, 2026: With an emphasis on transforming classroom knowledge into practical managerial competence, the Department of Management at the International School of Management (ISM), Patna, organised an intellectually stimulating Case Study Competition for students of PGDM, Semesters I and IV, on Wednesday. The competition aimed to strengthen students’ analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, strategic decision-making skills, and understanding of real-world business challenges.
The competition provided an interactive academic platform for aspiring management professionals to examine complex business situations, identify critical managerial challenges, and propose innovative, feasible, and results-oriented solutions. Participating teams demonstrated their conceptual understanding, critical thinking, collaborative spirit, and presentation skills while analysing and interpreting the assigned case studies.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from PGDM students, who approached the business scenarios with diverse perspectives and practical insights. Their presentations reflected an understanding of managerial principles, strategic planning, resource optimisation and the importance of informed decision-making in today's dynamic and competitive business environment.
Beyond fostering healthy academic competition, the initiative promoted experiential and collaborative learning by bridging the gap between theoretical concepts and their practical applications. It encouraged students to think beyond textbooks, evaluate alternative courses of action, defend their recommendations, and develop the confidence required to address complex organisational challenges.
Highlighting the academic significance of the competition, Dr. Pooja Dubey, Head of the Department of Management, ISM Patna, observed that case-based learning plays a pivotal role in preparing students for the complexities of the corporate world. She emphasised that effective management education must go beyond the acquisition of theoretical knowledge and cultivate the ability to analyse situations critically, make informed decisions and formulate practical solutions.
"A successful manager is not merely someone who understands management theories but someone who can apply that knowledge to solve real-life business problems. Case study competitions encourage students to think critically, examine multiple perspectives, work collaboratively and develop the confidence to make responsible managerial decisions. Such experiential learning initiatives are essential for nurturing competent, innovative and industry-ready management professionals," Dr. Dubey remarked.
She further underlined that participation in such academic activities enhances students' communication, leadership, teamwork and professional presentation skills, which are indispensable for success in contemporary corporate environments.
The competition also facilitated meaningful peer learning and academic interaction between students of different semesters, enabling them to exchange ideas, explore diverse problem-solving approaches and gain valuable insights into contemporary business practices.
The successful organisation of the Case Study Competition reaffirmed ISM Patna's commitment to outcome-based, experiential and industry-oriented management education, aimed at developing future managers equipped with intellectual agility, professional competence, ethical judgement and the ability to navigate emerging business challenges.
