From Campus to Global Corporate Life: ISM Patna Alumnus Inspires Future Managers to Embrace Global Career Opportunities

ISM Patna, October 29, 2026: Bridging the gap between academic learning and the evolving expectations of the global corporate world, the Department of Management at the International School of Management (ISM), Patna, organised an insightful Alumni Guest Lecture on “Expectation Setting and Preparation for Global Corporate Life” on Thursday. The session aimed to equip aspiring management professionals with a practical understanding of corporate expectations, professional competencies, workplace adaptability and the essential skills required to build successful careers in an increasingly competitive global business environment.

The guest lecture was delivered by Mr. Avinash Kumar, an alumnus of the PGDM Batch 2021–23, who returned to his alma mater to share valuable professional insights and career guidance with the next generation of management students. His interaction highlighted the importance of aligning personal career aspirations with organisational expectations while developing the right combination of knowledge, skills, professional ethics and a growth-oriented mindset.

Addressing the students, Mr. Kumar emphasised that entering the corporate world requires more than academic qualifications and technical expertise. He highlighted the growing significance of effective communication, cross-cultural understanding, teamwork, adaptability, emotional intelligence and professional discipline in navigating diverse workplace environments.

The session particularly focused on setting realistic career expectations, understanding organisational culture, developing workplace readiness and preparing for the challenges of global corporate life. Mr. Kumar encouraged students to cultivate a continuous learning attitude, remain receptive to constructive feedback and develop the confidence to work with professionals from different cultural and professional backgrounds.

He further underscored the importance of time management, accountability, problem-solving abilities and ethical decision-making in establishing professional credibility. Students were encouraged to approach their careers with clear objectives, realistic expectations and a willingness to embrace new responsibilities and opportunities.

Dr. Pooja Dubey, Head of the Department of Management, highlighted the academic significance of alumni interactions in strengthening the connection between classroom learning and industry requirements. She observed that such initiatives provide students with valuable exposure to practical workplace realities and help them understand the professional competencies expected by contemporary organisations.

She further emphasised that management education must extend beyond theoretical knowledge to nurture leadership qualities, interpersonal effectiveness, analytical thinking and a global professional outlook. Alumni engagement, she noted, serves as an important bridge between institutional learning and corporate experience, inspiring students to pursue their professional aspirations with greater clarity and confidence.

Sharing the key takeaways, Ms. Neeru Kumari, Training and Placement Officer (TPO), ISM Patna, emphasised that successful placement and long-term career growth depend on a student's ability to translate academic knowledge into practical workplace competencies.

She identified five essential pillars of global corporate readiness: effective communication, professional etiquette, adaptability, continuous skill development and realistic expectation setting. She stressed that students must begin preparing for corporate responsibilities during their academic journey rather than waiting until the placement process begins.

Ms. Kumari further highlighted the importance of résumé development, interview preparedness, interpersonal communication, digital proficiency and a positive professional attitude. She encouraged students to participate actively in training programmes, internships, industry interactions and placement-oriented activities to strengthen their employability and confidence.

The lecture reinforced the message that global career success is shaped not merely by securing a job but by demonstrating competence, integrity, adaptability and a commitment to lifelong learning.

The initiative reflected ISM Patna's continued commitment to industry-oriented management education, meaningful alumni engagement and the holistic professional development of its students. By connecting aspiring managers with the experiences and perspectives of its alumni, the institution continues to prepare future business professionals to meet the opportunities and challenges of the global corporate landscape.
