Course Description

ISM Patna offers a two-year full time Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM), equivalent to MBA, approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India. It is a well researched programme designed specifically to cater to the needs of Industry. The entire PGDM/MBA program has been divided into 6 trimesters. In the first year of the program, students learn the fundamentals of management. In the second year they are offered to choose from the different specializations offered by the college. presently specialization in the areas of - Marketing, Finance, Human Resource, IT Management etc . are being offered. At the end of the first year students are required to do two month internship in companies, which exposes them to real work situations and helps them integrate and synchronize their conceptual understanding with business realities.

The core focus of the course is the development of global leaders with strong technical business knowledge and to foster innovation. Team based learning forms the core of the teaching methodology of the course.

Marketing

Every work demands for unique strategies, innovative idea to enhance sales, create market for the new or existing product, right pitch to promote the product and so on. ISM Patna offers specialized domain knowledge in Consumer Behaviour, Service Marketing, Integrated Marketing Communication, Sales and Distribution and New Product Development.
In-depth knowledge of financial terms, its application, new laws related to taxation, policies framed by the government and its effect plus impact on the income of an individual as well as the organization, and many such topics should be on the tip of the tongue of the students of finance. The subjects such as Management of Banking and Financial Services, Security Analysis and Portfolio Management, Derivatives and Risk Management, International Finance, etc. widens the knowledge and analytical skills of the students.
To establish ‘Happy Organization’, a congenial workplace for the employees, better training and development programs are few of the common roles of the HR professional. Here at ISM Patna, students are prepared for generalist profile as well as for consultancy role. Manpower Planning, Training and Development, Performance Appraisal, Recruitment and Selection, Compensation Management – these technical papers do enhance the understanding of the students who will cater the role of HR in different organizations.
The convergence of computing and Telecommunication technologies and digitalization has revolutionized the way of Management. Its impact is witnessed in business practices in the last decade. The wide use of this technology will make it pervasive in the near future. So, in this specialization students will learn the theoretical background of Business Intelligence and Data mining, Business & Data communication networks, Cyber Law, Business modelling through System Dynamics, etc. and issues related to the next generation network.

PGDM Programme Structure

The PGDM Programme extends over a period of 21 to 24 months, involving six trimesters with a summer internship at a professionally managed organization. The programme is carefully designed keeping in view the changing needs of the domestic as well as global business environment. All through the first year, students are exposed to basic concepts in the areas of Marketing, Finance, Quantitative Methods, Operations, Behavioural Sciences and Strategy through the core courses. These shall lay the foundations for all the functional areas of management and help the students develop an elaborate understanding about the different aspects.

Curriculum

During second year, students are open to choose from a range of electives to concentrate on functional areas of their interest. The areas offered at present are Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, and IT/Information Systems.

A lot of emphasis during the PGDM has been laid on industry based and research projects. The students, over the period of years are expected to conduct research on various aspects of management and subject it to the scrutiny and evaluation by the faculty. This is aimed at increasing the levels of comprehension the students possess in the respective topics.
